ATA SIF Announces $2.2 Million Dividend

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. – The Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Commission has approved a $2.2 million dividend to members of the Arkansas Trucking Association Self Insurers’ Fund. Surplus premiums will be distributed back to 38 trucking companies enrolled in the workers’ compensation insurance trust.

ATA created the fund in 1993 to help members control the cost of workers’ compensation insurance. The trust, which provides coverage to more than 3,700 employees, stabilizes costs and rewards employers for safe operations. Any surplus premiums collected are returned to members in the form of dividends after injury claims and other expenses are paid.

“Arkansas depends on the trucking industry as an essential service and a major employer in the state, providing one in 11 jobs for more than 98,000 people. Safe operations for every employee is a critical focus of our business,” said Vicki Jones Stephens, chair, ATA SIF Board of Trustees. “It is an honor to recognize the companies who move our state forward while touting impressive safety records.”

“The $2.2 million distribution represents surplus funds from 2015, 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022. When combined with the $2.7 million distribution last year, $1.4 million in 2022 and $1.1 million in 2021, SIF members have received $7.4 million in dividends over the last four years and over $34 million since the fund’s creation,” said Shannon Newton, president, ATA. “For recipients, safety begets safety, and those returned dollars can reward employees, upgrade technologies or invest in other safety improvements.”

Members in good standing with good loss experiences will receive dividend checks ranging from $150 to $308,000.
