A 93-year-old toymaker, Ed Higinbotham, donated 300 trucks he made in his home workshop to be given to local Pennsylvania kids for Christmas.
Higinbotham has been donating his handcrafted cars, trucks, and horse-drawn tractors for about 30 years and recently began enlisting Pennsylvania State Police troopers to deliver to homeless shelters and Head Start programs.
“It’s just something that I enjoy doing, and now I make somebody else happy, and if that’s Santa Claus, then I’m Santa Claus,” Higinbotham told local news station about his year-round hobby of crafting wood toys.
State Trooper Robert Broadwater tweeted a photo of Higinbotham with one of his handmade creations, causing the act of kindness to go viral.
“It’s been a success. People really like Ed. They’ve grown to him,” Broadwater said, adding that the children who receive the special gifts also like to make them their own.
“A lot of them like to paint them, have fun with them. It’s not every day that you actually get a homemade wooden toy, and I think the young people appreciate that,” the trooper concluded.
